Organized Structure
Organization and structure equals discipline. This is what the Junior Firefighter Youth Foundation’s programming instills in our students. We strive to create an environment of structure, discipline and professionalism.
We believe that using the military style formations of movement is very important in teaching students discipline. Teaching our students about various life skills they may not receive in other parts of their lives is germane to the development of a productive and positive student.
Students learn how to manage their time, handle their own personal affairs and then come to the class prepared for the sessions we are ready to present to them.
We constantly instill the mantra, “Early is on time and on time is late”. The importance of promptness and timeliness are the first lessons that are taught to the students. This is just a small example of the organization and structure that are conveyed to the students.
We set expectations for our students and we help them in meeting them. We bring a core set of values to our programming from the fire service and help them to understand the meaning of them.
Captain Burton served a total of 37 years in the fire service and he has trained a countless number of firefighters that have gone on to become high ranking chief officers in the fire service. He brings this same level of passion and desire to teach the cadre of firefighters that in turn teach the students.
Captain Burton and his team welcome firefighters that have an interest in assisting with the instruction of the Future Firefighter Program. Contact him at biburton@sbcglobal.net to learn about opportunities to become involved.
